Froglife's guide to amphibians

The UK is home to seven native amphibian species. More information about each of these species can be found below.

Epidalea calamita (formerly Bufo calamita)

The native Pool Frog (Pelophylax lessonae formerly Rana lessonae) became extinct in the wild in the mid-1990s. It has since been reintroduced to several sites in the UK, through a project managed by Natural England and the Herpetological Conservation Trust.
