Froglife's guide to amphibians The UK is home to seven native amphibian species. More information about each of these species can be found below. If you are unsure what species you have come across you can use our Froglife Amphibian ID Guide to help.
The native Pool Frog (Pelophylax lessonae formerly Rana lessonae) became extinct in the wild in the mid-1990s. It has since been reintroduced to several sites in the UK, through a project managed by Natural England and the Herpetological Conservation Trust. Caudata (tailed amphibians)
