Spawn and tadpoles Frequently asked questions about frog/toad spawn and tadpoles:
It may seem like you have too much spawn or too many tadpoles but there is no need to worry, this is quite normal. Amphibians lay so many eggs because so few of them actually survive! It is thought only around 5% of the spawn laid actually makes it out of the pond as a froglet. Even then, just 10% of these froglets make it to adulthood. Spawn/tadpoles are a vital part of the food chain and it is best not to interfere. Also, the pond can only support a certain amount of life so it should balance out.
