Frequently asked questions about frog/toad spawn and tadpoles:
Should I feed the tadpoles in my pond? You should not need to add any food to your pond. Newly hatched tadpoles are herbivorous and feed on the algae that grows on pond plants; when they start to grow legs they become omnivorous and start to feed on decaying matter in the pond in addition to their herbivorous diet. In most cases you should let nature take its course and not interfere - the smaller, weaker ones will die and provide more food for the bigger ones. Some people choose to supplement the diet with spinach to start and fish flakes (for cold water fish) later on, but in most cases there is no need to take this approach.
