The only way to test for ranavirus is to analyse one of the dead
frogs. We coordinate the submission of ranavirus samples for
research projects so if you think your frogs have been infected
please get in touch so we can confirm this and instruct you on
what to do next. You will be required to store the dead body/ies
in your freezer to preserve them - please put them in one or
more sealed plastic bags/containers. Only fresh specimens are
suitable for analysis so please do not store anything that has
been dead for more than a few hours. Once you've done this we
will either arrange for it/them to be collected or instruct you
on where to post it/them.
make sure the specimen is well sealed when it is placed in your
freezer - ranavirus is not a risk to humans but there are other
bacteria present in ponds that maybe harmful if the food in your
freezer is contaminated.
