River Nene

Practical Conservation

Boardwalks LNR Pictures (78)Froglife plan to create, restore and/or improve around 20 wildlife habitats across the River Nene. This is often done through pond creation, restoration and selective tree works. We are looking for volunteers to help with the initial work on all of these sites, and will be providing training so that volunteers can continue to maintain the sites in the long term.

Example volunteer practical tasks:

  • Habitat creation and restoration.  This may involve working alongside professional contractors, digging new ponds, planting / seeding, clearing vegetation and building hibernacula.
  • Surveying for amphibians and reptiles.
  • Site maintenance – managing access routes, monitoring water levels or reporting any signs of amphibians!
