Frogs,
toads and newts are dependent on ponds and other water bodies to
lay their eggs. These species all have an aquatic larval stage
and the loss of ponds inevitably means the loss of amphibians.
Froglife is trying to rectify the dramatic decline in the number
of ponds through various projects:
This unique pond creation project is creating and restoring
prime wildlife habitats in gardens and parks throughout London
and Glasgow, using networks of volunteers that focus on
rejuvenating our disappearing urban ponds.

Over twenty years after an initial great created newt survey was
carried out in London, we’re back to find out how they’re
getting on. The second phase of the project will look at
restoring selected newt habitats.
Great Crested Newts Revisited

Froglife has various pond-based projects in Peterborough, from
our research on Hampton Nature Reserve – home to 30,000 great
crested newts in over 300 ponds – to creating wildlife ponds
with the young people we work with on allotments and school
grounds.
