Tim Hopkins is one of the vets at the Institute of Zoology, based at the Zoological Society of London.
Tim works on the Garden Wildlife Health project, which is a partnership bewtween the IoZ, Froglife, the British Trust for Ornithology and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. For this edition of Natterchat, Sam Taylor visited Tim for a chat about the project, and what his role entails. One of the things Tim does is undertake post mortems on any specimens sent into the project.
You can use the new Garden Wildlife Health website to report any sightings of ill or dead amphibians, reptiles, garden birds and Hedgehogs, and the reports will go to Tim and the IoZ team for analysis. They will contact you if you have specimens that might be suitable for further analysis.
The project is funded by Defra, the Esmee Fairburn Foundation and the project partners.
Have a look at the Garden Wildlife Health website and report any sightings here.
