Peterborough Environment
Enrichment Project

PEEP is an established and successful project delivered by Froglife on behalf of the Peterborough Youth Offending Service.

The project works to deliver practical conservation projects to young offenders, helping develop the basic skills of young people, including their social skills, practical skills, literacy and numeracy.

Learning in this way helps to increase confidence and self-esteem and many participants develop a genuine interest and enthusiasm in the natural environment.  Trained volunteers from 'Better Together' provide further support for the young people.

PEEP works closely with a number of environmental and wildlife organisations, Peterborough City Council and local community groups to develop a wide range of projects for these young people.

Current activities include:

  • An allotment at Dogsthorpe growing organic fruit and vegetables. A wildlife pond and bird and butterfly garden is also being developed on the site. This project has been entered into the Anglia in Bloom competition.

  • Making bird boxes which are used on community sites (one has travelled as far as Sweden!).

  • General conservation projects at Hampton Nature Reserve in Peterborough.
