Standing Water Habitat Action Plans (HAPs)

Water is crucial for all life on Earth. As freshwater it exists in lakes and rivers, as well as in man-made features like reservoirs, canals, ditches, ponds and gravel pits.

These habitats are disappearing. In the UK alone more than one-third of ponds have disappeared in the latter half of the last century.

Froglife is leading a partnership of conservation organisations in tackling these declines. Working in a number of counties and regions including Greater London and Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, Froglife coordinates Standing Water Habitat Action Plans (HAPs).

In doing this Froglife and others are saving the enormous variety of species that call freshwater home: from Common Frog to Kingfisher. From bug to bulrush.

Our work benefits people too. By involving local communities and encouraging local involvement, Froglife is making the future better for ponds and for wildlife. Better for us all.
