Allotments are safe havens for reptiles. This is because they
provide many of the features that they depend on, and all in one
place. Because reptiles need places to bask, thick vegetation in
which to hide, and opportunities to find a range of prey, you’re
more likely to find reptiles on allotments than in gardens.
In Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, reptiles are
‘under-recorded’ which means we know little about where they
exist.
Reptile Rummage, a 12 month long project working in Peterborough
and Cambridgeshire, tackled this need for records through a
variety of events and recording methods.
