Year of the Frog - a big leap forward

Friday 14th November 2008, Edinburgh Zoo
Reception with light refreshments: 6.15pm
Talks: 6.45-8.30pm (with interval).

Cost: £5 per person.

This special evening, hosted by Froglife and chaired by Professor Aubrey Manning, distinguished BBC television and radio broadcaster on natural history and a leading authority on animal behaviour, gives you the chance to hear about some of the exciting developments in amphibian conservation.

Amphibians are disappearing across the world. At present nearly one third of all amphibian species are threatened with extinction and many more species are in decline. The alarm bell is ringing, and the heat is on for those working in the field of amphibian conservation. This is their night…

There are many individual people and organisations working hard in a number of fields to tackle the varied causes of amphibian declines and to save species from extinction. This special evening gives you a chance to hear the story of some of these hard-working fieldworkers, scientists, landscape-shapers, and campaigners who will be continuing the fight for amphibians long after Year of the Frog 2008 ends…

Speakers include:

Edinburgh Zoo’s Conservation Manager Rob Thomas
Glasgow City Council’s Jim Coyle MBE
Glasgow University’s Professor Roger Downie
