April is a great time to keep an eye on the amphibians in your garden pond. Our clocks have now gone forward an hour, the days are getting longer and warmer and our amphibians are now breeding. Frogspawn is easy to spot in clumps at the water’s surface, toadspawn not quite so easy, they are laid in strings and wrapped around the ponds vegetation. Newts are not so evident, as their breeding activity is mostly nocturnal with their eggs laid individually and wrapped in the leaves of plants below the surface. A great way to find newts is by torchlight at night, and be sure to use our Dragon Finder App to record all your sightings! If you would like to get involved with surveying your local park or nature reserve we have organised a number of survey training workshops across London this spring. The workshop covers identifying reptiles & amphibians and the survey techniques used for recording them, check out our events page to find a workshop near you!

There are plenty of opportunities to get involved with the London Dragon Finder Project so please get in touch with the team and keep an eye on our events page to find out more!
