What is Frogglebox?
As a part of the Coalface to Wildspace project in Walsall, we created an immersive digital experience connecting Walsall’s deep history and heritage hidden under the surface of the visible landscape, to the wildlife and people that live here now. Frogglebox will take you on a journey through Walsall’s 400 million year old rock, travelling along 270 million year old rivers when the first amphibians appeared, and the 200 million old stone at Sutton Coldfield which was the start of the reptile era, before arriving back at our modern Walsall.
Frogglebox Film
Have you ever wondered what Walsall used to be like, before the concrete jungle? In this short film, you will take a journey through the layers of time, from the tropical coral seas of the Silurian period, 400 million years ago, through to the present day.
Layers of Time Lego® Brick Displays
In the summer of 2023, adults and children across Walsall designed amazing models with Lego® bricks based on the layers of time explored through Frogglebox. These amazing creations have been transformed by artists from Infamous Arts into inspiring displays. These displays started their tour in 5 libraries across Walsall, and are now reunited in the visitor centre at Walsall Arboretum.
During our recent Layers of Time Celebration Event, 5 judges helped us to select the best of the amazing community made Lego Brick designs that make up our awesome Layers of Time displays!
Each judge nominated a tile from their Layer of Time before working together to decide upon the ultimate winner from the 5 nominees. This amazing 3D lizard from the Triassic period won! Our 4 runners up are this fabulous orthopod from the Silurian, this dazzling anciant dragonfly from the Carboniferous, this spectacular scenery from the Quarternary, and this terrific tree from the Present Day.
They also crowned the Present Day as the Ultimate Layer of Time! Our judges thought that this display was the most vibrant, with so many different, amazing designs that represent Walsall today. Well done to everyone who helped make this the winning display.
