Training Courses were run teaching participants about Amphibian and Reptile Ecology and Survey Methods and Habitat Management. Come Forth for Wildlife ran 22 training courses with 294 attendees, the skills shared with local communities will leave a lasting legacy to the Come Forth for Wildlife project – empowering local people to identify, survey and create ideal habitats for amphibians and reptiles.
These Training Courses offered a great chance for those interested in amphibians and reptiles to discover how to identify and discover these species in the wild. They also offered excellent skills for future employment in ecology and land management.
Our reptile and amphibian survey skills and ecology course took place over 2 days – a theory session on the afternoon of the first day covered identification, ecology, survey methods and how to submit sightings for our Scottish species. This was followed by an evening survey teaching four methods of survey skills for amphibians. We returned the following morning to finish the amphibian survey and completed a reptile survey of the area before moving on to a theory section on reptiles.
Our reptile and amphibian habitat management course took place over 1 day – a theory session in the morning covered pond creation and restoration, managing terrestrial habitats and the importance of inter connecting habitats. In the afternoon we visited and discussed several nearby habitats, sharing ideas and testing knowledge.
