Dragon Finder

River Nene

Practical Conservation

Boardwalks LNR Pictures (78)Froglife improved wildlife habitats at over 30 sites across the River Nene area during the Dragon Finder project. This was often done through pond creation, restoration and selective tree works.

The team enlisted the help of volunteers to assist with practical tasks and/or surveying at many of these sites, and provided training so that volunteers could continue to maintain the sites in the long term.

Example volunteer practical tasks:

    • Habitat creation and restoration.  This may involve working alongside professional contractors, digging new ponds, planting / seeding, clearing vegetation and building hibernacula.
    • Surveying for amphibians and reptiles or assessing pond condition.

  • Site maintenance – managing access routes, monitoring water levels or reporting any signs of amphibians!
