Protected Species Surveys

Froglife Ecological Services can offer support with surveys, licensing and mitigation for a range of protected species including great crested newt, reptiles, water vole and otter.

The National Planning Policy Framework states that in order to protect and enhance biodiversity proposed development plans should promote the protection and recovery of priority species and identify and pursue opportunities for securing measurable net gains for biodiversity. Where there is a reasonable likelihood of protected or priority species being present on a site appropriate levels of survey and an Ecological Impact Assessment will be required to support the planning application.

The presence of protected species on a site may require alteration to the plans or a change to the timing of works. Failure to detect the presence of protected species early and to plan appropriately can cause major delays and disruption to development. We therefore highly recommend that expert advice is sought at the earliest opportunity in order to avoid delays and ultimately save on costs.
