Creating a toad abode is a fun activity to lighten up your garden area and provide a cosy spot for amphibians. These little houses make a lovely addition to your garden, providing shelter and refuge for your friendly amphibian neighbours!
All you need is a terracotta clay pot, that is at least 20cm in diameter. Decorate it using paints or even natural materials such as moss, pebbles, or slate. Once dry, choose a shady and dark location for your new toad abode! Place it upside down, propping it at a slight angle with a stone or stick, with the open area on the bottom on top of soft soil. This allows the toad to crawl into their beautiful new home and burrow into the soft ground.
Top tip! If the area is quite dry why not place a saucer filled with water pushed into the soil next to the toad abode, giving the toad a place to cool down!
