Last week, Froglife and partners PPG Colourful Communities, the Millpond Support Group, Kirklees Council and St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School celebrated a successful pond improvement project at Millpond in Dewsbury. Froglife helped install a dipping platform, gravel a pathway, painted fences and installed information boards, designed by children at St Joseph’s.
Councillor Gwen Lowe, Deputy Mayor of Kirklees, was thrilled with the project; she had encouraged local residents to form the Millpond Support Group in response to concerns about anti-social behaviour at the site.
The improved pond will not only benefit local residents and schools, but also patients at the neighbouring mental health ward of Dewsbury Hospital.
Kirklees Natural Achievers is a Froglife project working with South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation, using the natural environment to provide training and social opportunities for service users.
