Forests play a crucial role in combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, providing habitats for wildlife, and supporting the livelihoods of millions of people around the world. The International Day of Forests aims to promote efforts to conserve and manage forests sustainably, as well as to encourage actions that address deforestation, illegal logging, and other threats to forest ecosystems.
Toads are amphibians that spend most of their lives in woodlands. This kind of habitat provides them with suitable shelter, moisture, and food sources as well as areas with dense vegetation and leaf litter- providing safe spaces from predators- and access to water (ponds, streams, or wetlands).
Toads play important roles in woodland ecosystems. They help control insect populations by feeding on beetles, ants, and spiders. Additionally, they serve as prey for other animals, contributing to the food web.
Conservation efforts aimed at preserving woodland habitats are crucial for maintaining healthy populations of toads as well as other wildlife. Protecting woodlands from deforestation, pollution, and habitat destruction helps ensure the survival of toads and the ecological balance of these forests
Various events and activities, such as tree planting campaigns, educational workshops, and advocacy campaigns take place around the world to mark the occasion and highlight the importance of forests as well as protecting our toads well-being!
