In April 2019, the London T.O.A.D team delivered a ‘toads on allotments’ workshop at Brockwell Park Greenhouses, Lambeth. It was school half term, so lots of the attendees were children. This lovely site has a known toad although it wasn’t seen on this occasion. The visit began in the onsite greenhouse where the talk was delivered to a sea of children and parents (picture; below centre). The children were delighted when their parents were quizzed afterwards to check they were listening! This was followed by a walk around the entire nature reserve, a wildlife rummage and a pond dipping session. The group saw 3 male newts in full breeding attire and 1 female newt, and the female decided to make a daring escape from the dipping tray back to the pond.
