Froglife organise a wide range of events throughout the year to suit people of all ages, abilities and levels of experience. This is a 2 day course aimed at those who are just starting out with GCN surveys, or may have completed one season of surveys, and would like to broaden their training in order to work towards their Great Crested Newt Class 1 survey licence.
Following successful completion of the course you can gain a reference from Froglife’s Ecologist which can be used in support of an application to Natural England to survey for Great Crested Newts.

- Survey techniques
- Submitting your survey data
- Practical session
This session will cover some of the key principles of creating and restoring aquatic and terrestrial habitats for amphibians. The session is split between an indoor element and outdoor field trip to see ponds – including those created or restored through the Renfrewshire Living Water project. Through the session attendees should learn:
- What habitats amphibians require
- How to create ponds
- How to restore ponds
- Creation of terrestrial habitats
Spaces are limited so booking is essential – please contact to reserve a space. Suitable outdoor clothing and outdoor footwear is recommended. Light refreshments provided.
Indoor element taking place at the Gleniffer Hotel with site visits to Jenny’s Well Local Nature Reserve and Barshaw Park.
Join Froglife as part of the Renfrewshire Living Water project to enhance ponds recently created around Paisley.
Barshaw Park has a newly created wildlife pond for amphibians and other pond wildlife at the end of 2018. We will be managing this area to create better habitat for frogs, toads and newts.
Tools, gloves and light refreshments provided – but please bring outdoor clothing suitable for the weather and wellies (or waterproof boots) as the area may be quite wet. If you intend to come along please let us know!
Visit Froglife at the Grow in Glenburn Community Garden Open Day! Ask your pond questions at our Pond Doctor Stall, learn more about the dangers of roads to wildlife through our exciting Virtual Reality Experience or attend our Wildlife Gardening Workshop to learn all about gardening for wildlife with an amphibian and reptile focus.
You can visit the gardens throughout the event and check out growing ideas. Come enjoy tea / coffee and see a selection of plants for the garden.

Or experience the journey of a Common Toad crossing a wildlife tunnel with our new Virtual Reality exhibition. During the event we will also be hosting one Wildlife Gardening Workshop where attendees can learn all about gardening for wildlife skills.
