Funders: Supported by Drumbowie Environment Action Group and the National Lottery Heritage Fund
Drumbowie Community Park is situated in Standburn to the south-east of Falkirk. The park is well used by the local community with seasonal events occurring and is in close proximity to Drumbowie Primary School. The site is owned by the Drumbowie Environment Action Group who were formed in 1996 to take full ownership of the area for use by the community in the future.
Drumbowie Community Park has an existing pond where grasses and sedges are currently dominating and choking areas of open water which are important for amphibians and other wildlife. The restoration of the pond is therefore vital for the provision of breeding habitat for amphibians, aquatic invertebrates and other wildlife associated with freshwater. Pond restoration has taken place at the site in December 2021 to remove the overgrown vegetation, to keep the pond clear for amphibians.
During January 2022, a new freshwater pond was created on site to link with the existing pond to create a stepping stone habitat, offering a variety of freshwater habitats for wildlife. It will provide breeding and sheltering habitat for amphibians and a range of aquatic invertebrates.
