What is Coalface to Wildspace: Yorkshire
Coalface to Wildspace: Yorkshire is about transforming habitats so they provide a home for our native amphibians and reptiles and achieving that transformation in partnership with local communities here in Yorkshire.

We’ll create and restore 60 ponds as well as creating habitats on the land that will support our reptiles and amphibians. The new and restored ponds will be connected by wildlife corridors, stepping stones of wildlife friendly habitats, that will enable wildlife to move safely around the region.
Why do we need to take action?
Wildlife is in decline and habitats are being lost at an astonishing rate. The UK has lost 50% of it’s ponds and of those remaining 80% have been classified as being in a poor condition but together we can help arrest this decline.

What are we planning to do?
- Create and restore 60 ponds in Yorkshire
- Create five wildlife corridors to help wildlife more freely in our region
- Deliver wildlife training and workshops to enable communities to take positive action for wildlife
- Run pond dipping sessions for young people
