North of the River Forth in Clackmannanshire, Gartmorn Dam is located in a 370 acre Country Park and Nature Reserve and is home to Scotland’s oldest reservoir. The park is part owned by Clackmannanshire Council, part owned by Scottish Water with the Gartmorn Dam Development Trust also involved . It is well used by walkers, cyclists, dog walkers, schools and others. It has active Rangers working and managing the site alongside several other sites in the area.
The existing pond at Gartmorn Dam has now been restored! The pond was cleared of overgrown vegetation and de-silted to create more open water. The pond and surrounding area was also cleared of litter, and a dipping platform has been installed. Hibernacula has been created nearby to provide overwintering habitat for reptiles and amphibians.
An interpretation board was installed for the benefit of nearby schools and the local community – to educate on ponds the species that can be found under the surface!
