As a Froglife Trainee I get the opportunity to meet and learn from staff across the organisation. Unfortunately a lot of this has been restricted due to Covid, but this month I was very excited to spend a couple of days working with Louise on the Glasgow Green Pathways project and get involved with some of the other work that Froglife does. I spent two days shadowing Louise and assisting with her outdoor education sessions working with disadvantaged and vulnerable young people in Glasgow. I then delivered my own ‘Bird ID’ activity for one of her groups which was great fun! The group often visit a local green park learning about different plant and animal species and developing bush craft skills, so I led the group on a bird walk teaching them how to identify the different birds around us, and learning how to recognise some of their calls – in particular a very vocal wren! We finished the session with their bush craft guide demonstrating how to responsibly and safely create a campfire which we then toasted marshmallows on – the perfect way to end a session and definitely a highlight of the month!
I have also been working on the Froglife Instagram account alongside our London trainee. Recently we have been working on increasing our activity on Instagram through posting more often, doing a big giveaway, and I have been creating fun quizzes and games for our followers to play on Instagram stories. I’ve really enjoyed creating Instagram content and learning what does and doesn’t work – it’s also been really amazing to see the results of our hard work as our followers and engagement are going up and up!
