As a Froglife Trainee I get the opportunity to meet and learn from staff across the organisation. This month I was very excited to go on the Staff & Trustee Away Day in Peterborough. James and I travelled down on the train and stayed in Peterborough the night before. Then on the morning of the away day we made our way to Eye Green Nature Reserve, which Froglife has taken over management of. Eye Green Nature Reserve has a beautiful lake, fringed by reeds and bushes. The site was part of the Northam Brickworks but was then declared a nature reserve in 1996. This was our base for the day! In the morning we split into groups and made rafts to float for ducks, moorhen, coots and other birds and wildlife to use. The rafts were fun to create and were a good team building exercise! Lunch was brought to us, and we had a great picnic in the sunshine. It was a gorgeous, hot day! In the afternoon, we swam the rafts out and let go of the anchors! The rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing in the sun, swimming, chatting and getting know each other a bit better and then a site tour of the reserve. Then James and I made our way back to the station and back up north to Scotland! The day went really well, and it was good to see everyone and meet all of the trustees as well!
