The large pond at the main entrance close to Cockfosters Road was significantly overgrown with scrub and heavily shaded by overhanging trees. This vegetation and tree growth surrounding the pond needed to be significantly reduced to improve its viability for breeding common toads.

The following works had been undertaken in October 2019:
- The vegetation surrounding the pond had been cut back; sycamore, willows and other shrubs had been significantly reduced.
- Overhanging tree branches had been removed allowing significant amounts of light to reach the pond.
- Excess leaf litter had been removed from the pond.
- Any excess vegetation had been piled into habitat stacks.
