Fryent Country Park together with Barn Hill Open Space is a large park situated in the north of the London Borough of Brent. It covers 108 hectares (265 acres) of rolling fields and small woods. A tributary of the Gaderbrook, seasonally flows through the northern edge of the park and the Capital Ring footpath passes through the site close to the proposed pond works.
There are numerous ponds scattered over the site many of which are old farm ponds. There are records of common Frog, common Toad, Smooth Newt, common Lizard and Slow Worm on the site with the species all recorded in a Froglife led survey back in 2016
Pond Restoration 1: The Main Pond was in need of restoration as it was choked by emergent vegetation (mainly reeds) and was shaded by surrounding trees.
Significant amounts of emergent vegetation had been removed from the pond, opening up areas of open water. The pond had been deepened, removing large amounts of silt, which have been piled into a bank behind the pond.

Pond restoration 2: Pond 2 prior to restoration was extremely dry and full of silt. The pond failed to hold water for most of the year and was unsuitable for breeding amphibians.
The pond had been deepened, removing large amounts of silt, thus improving its suitability for breeding amphibians. The spoil had been carefully graded into the area of trees and scrub immediately surrounding the pond.

Pond restoration 3: Pond 3 like pond 2 was extremely dry and full of silt. The pond failed to hold water for most of the year and was unsuitable for breeding amphibians. Surrounding grass and vegetation was encroaching the pond, reducing its size.
Like pond 2, The pond had been deepened, removing large amounts of silt, thus improving its suitability for breeding amphibians.

As of Spring 2021, the ponds are looking healthy and full of water. Pond 2 was found full to the brim of both toad and frog tadpoles!
