Inspired by Nature is a themed Croak to entertain you with art and creative writing based on nature and the outdoors. We hope it will stimulate you to get creative and produce something yourself. If you do and would like to share them with us, please post them on our Facebook page, Twitter account, or email us at info@froglife.org
This months feature has been written by Rebecca Neal our Conservation Youth Worker on the Peterborough Green Pathways project, funded by BBC Children in Need.
I have been thinking a lot about trees lately. As a Green Pathways activity over the weekend I organised an overnight camp. Trees played a significant role in how well this went: we hugged them in a photo treasure hunt, balanced on them as part of a team challenge, climbed them, were shaded by them, and identified them using their leaves on a nature walk. I love trees, and I wanted to write something that reflected their importance to humans collectively and individually, to remind us of why we should look after them. They obviously also have a value in their own right.
I have created a concrete poem, which is a piece of creative writing in which the shape is important to the theme of the writing.
