The state of nature report, a world leading study first published in September 2023, found the UK’s wildlife was in steep decline. Already classified as one of the world’s most nature-depleted countries, nearly one in six of the more than ten thousand species assessed (16%) are at risk of being lost from the UK.
Unfortunately, the figure is much higher for certain groups with amphibians and reptiles as high as 31%.
Reptile Awareness Day is an opportunity to highlight the importance of reptiles in our world and to promote their conservation. Reptiles continue to face various threats, including habitat loss and illegal wildlife trade, making it crucial to raise awareness about their value and the need to protect them.
Reptile awareness day recognises the vital roles reptiles play in maintaining ecological balance.
